MY HOLIDAY MAKEUP BAG

June 20, 2016

It's been a while since I went away on a real summer holiday, so you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm stressing my ass off preparing. I'm trying to pack light, bring a capsule makeup collection so to speak. I do want to bring a little more than my every day look as it's my first holiday away with the mister and I want to put in a little more effort than usual.

I've picked a number of base items to bring with me. Lightweight is definitely a key word for me, so the Dior Nude Skin BB Cream is the perfect pick for me. In my opinion it looks best when smoothed on with fingers because it melts the product into the skin. It provides light coverage, just making the skin look smooth and even without hiding it. My freckles still show through this. To cover up hardier imperfections I'm bringing the Clarins Instant Concealer. Mentioned before in my go to makeup items, this stuff does a great job but never looks cakey or too thick. To add some warmth to my complexion I use the Chanel Les Beiges in the shade 40.

Highlighter is probably my favourite makeup product ever and you know I can't go on a trip without the dreamy RMS Living Luminizer. This stuff is so pretty, I'm not too sure how the oil based formula will perform in the hot Croatian climate, but I'll make sure to keep it out of the sun and skip it during the day.

The above pictured blush might look a little daunting, but Voile Pink from & Other Stories is arguably my all time favourite cheek colour. It requires the lightest of hands when applying but it just looks so lovely. I can't imagine not having it in my makeup collection.

To fill in my brows I have the Smashbox Brow Tech Shaping powder. This is an ingenious little item, the powder is amazing and still looks natural and it comes with its own little precise applicator. I want to tell you about it in more detail but I'll reserve that for some other time.

A thin, easy to use black eyeliner is always a musthave in a downsized collection. This one is from Catrice and incredibly affordable priced under five euros. Of course I'll never go anywhere without a good mascara and the Pupa Vamp is still my go to. This holds curls extremely well while thickening and lengthening my lashes at the same time. This one is close to running out so I might get myself a brand spanking new one before I leave.

Last but not least are my two lip options. A classic matte red is from MAC, the iconic shade Ruby Woo. For a lighter, more natural sheer tint of colour is the Rimmel Moisture Renew Sheer and Shine in Pink Rules. This last part is actually still the part I'm most unsure about, I feel like I might need to take a less bright option, but I do want something sheer and lightweight. Do you have any recommendations for a good summer lipstick?

I'm so incredibly excited for this trip I can't wait to show you all about it.

WISHING: SKIN CARE

June 16, 2016

I've been focusing on skin care a lot lately and I feel like my routine needs a little pick me up. I get this way every once in a while. I've got the hydrating bit down, now I need to up my game on the exfoliating front to really get out that glow.

I heard so many good things about the Renaissance Cleansing Gel as it's a favourite among bloggers and vloggers alike. Apparently it's the holy grail in skin care territory. I think this will be great to use in combination with my little Luna Mini 2. It's actually quite affordable, so I do think I'll be adding this to my skin care basket sooner rather than later.

I'm pretty close to finishing my Clarins Exfoliating toner and I feel like I need something with a little more kick to it to use in the toning phase of my skin care routine. I'm kind of torn between the Pixi Glow Tonic and the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance pads. I feel like pads are a little expensive because it will only last you about two months before you have to buy another box of sixty pads. Whereas the glow tonic will just be distributed onto a cotton pad and then onto the face. It will probably last me a lot longer.

Kiehl's is a brand that has always intrigued me and now that I am loving the creamy eye treatment from this brand I want to try some other stuff as well. I've heard some good things about the Ultra Facial Cream. I like formulas that aren't too complicated. I want my moisturiser to do just that, moisturise. But I don't want it to feel heavy or thick on my skin. I don't still want to notice it after applying it hours before.

The last one is the Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal mask. Now this one isn't new to me, I've used an entire tube of this before. This stuff is the best at exfoliating. Whenever I used this I woke up with the loveliest skin. It was softer, clearer and more glowing. I really want to get this back in my routine because frankly I miss an exfoliating treatment.

What are you currently wishing for?

FIVE FAVOURITES

June 14, 2016

It's been a little over a month since I opened up this blog again with it's whole new look and brand new content. I'm quite pleased with how it's going, though I do feel like I need to work on putting out a steady flow of content, rather than a post here and there. I want to establish some sort of schedule so that you lovely readers also know when you can count on something new from me. It's been quiet on here last week so to start up again I thought I would talk to you about some of my latest favourite things.

Exactly three weeks from today I will be on holiday in sunny Croatia, it's my first trip with the mister and I could not be more excited. His parents have been on holiday in the South of France for the last two weeks so we had a bit of a taste what living together would be like and it's been amazing. I've been stocking up on summer supplies the last couple of weeks and one of the things I purchased with Croatia in mind is a high protection facial SPF. During my last holiday I also used the La Roche Posay Anthelios XL, but in the tinted version. I really liked how light it felt on my skin but protected it from sun damage at the same time, the only thing I didn't like was the tint. So this year I've opted for the regular version and have been using it every time I go out into the bright sun.

I've been putting more thought and effort into my skin care routine and have added the Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with avocado to my nighttime regime. For a long time I was of the opinion that I was too young for an eye cream. But preventing is always better than curing so with that in mind I have been patting this on religiously before I go to bed. I love the way it hydrates my under eye area, concealer now goes on and stays on much better.

At work a couple of colleagues and I have challenged ourselves not to have any soda or unhealthy snacks for an entire month. I can tell you now it's been pretty hard. Not the soda bit, because I am just as pleased drinking sparkling or still water, but the snacking has proven to be difficult. Especially when the mister and I settle down for some tv or gaming or when there are slow moments at work. To curb the craving for sweets I went into the store to look for something I could eat during the day that wouldn't be so bad for me and I wound up buying a few different kind of Nakd Bars. These bars are made of fruit and nuts smushed together and nothing else. There's no added sugars, preservatives or other bad stuff. They're also dairy free which is good because I've been trying to cut out dairy (more on that later). The cashew cookie on is extremely tasting and I definitely know that I'll keep these in my diet even after the challenge is finished.

I added a new pair of shoes to my wardrobe because I absolutely fell in love with them when I saw them in store. These sandals have the perfect heel height. They add just a bit of length but are never uncomfortable or difficult to wear. With the outfits I plan to bring on my trip in mind I think these shoes are the perfect multi tasking pair to bring as my heel option. Plus because they're from H&M they are affordable as well.

Last but not least is this seemingly bright lippie from Rimmel. It's one of the moisture renew sheer and shine ones. These are new to the Netherlands and I had such a hard time choosing a shade. I ended going for the one called Pink Rules. It looks so bright in the tube but when you apply it it's the perfect pop of pink on your lips. I never thought I would go for such a sheer formula, because I'm a matte lipstick girl at heart. But this is just perfect for spring and my lighter hair colour.

And that's it for some of my current favourite items, do you have any things you can't get enough of at the moment?

FOREO LUNA MINI 2: MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS

June 06, 2016

I'm pretty sceptical when it comes to beauty gadgets. Years ago when I was a teenager and the Clarisonic first started showing up on the beauty radar I remember wanting it so bad. I honestly believed that the cleansing tool would be the answer to all of my skin problems. But I never had the budget to purchase one. I tried some other items that were inspired by the Clarisonic but never really got into it. I just found them too abrasive for my sensitive, dry skin.

Enter me casually watching Kate's snapchat, as I do every day, and I see her talking about a little skin care device that she has been using for a while and it intrigues me. Then a couple days later I see her using it in her morning skin care routine and it intrigues me more. But initially I'm put off by the price and my scepticism comes back. Cue to about two weeks later, it never really left my mind and I'm at my specialist for a (much needed) eyebrow wax. I spy the hot pink Foreo Luna sitting on her little table of tools and I ask her opinion on it. She absolutely raves about it and even goes as far as using it on me to demonstrate how nice your skin feels after. At this point I'm pretty much sold, I need to try this thing for myself. The price still kind of put me off but my mum presented me with a gift certificate for taking care of the house while they were away on holiday, so I dove right in and bought myself the Foreo Luna Mini 2

This is a little waterproof cleansing device that is just a tad bit bigger than a cotton pad. You apply your cleanser to your skin, wet the device, turn it on and massage it all over your face for the duration of one minute. It uses sonic technology (like the Clarisonic, but without the abrasive bristles) to deeply cleanse your skin.

I want to give a detailed in-depth review when I've been using it for a longer time, but the results I've got in just one week of usage are too amazing to not talk about it before that. In the week of using this twice-daily my skin has cleared up, the size of my pores has diminished and skin care products are absorbed so much easier. I wake up with plump, radiant skin, something I've always wanted. Plus it only takes a minute! The sensation of the device vibrating is kind of strange at first but you quickly get used to it. It's quite addictive to use it, to be honest.

They come in a bunch of different colours and I was really doubting between the baby pink and the black but decided on the black in the end. Mainly because the baby pink wasn't in stock and I didn't really want to wait a few more days to start using it. Also because I hope the mister will eventually use it when we share a bathroom sink and he's probably less offended by a beauty product that's black rather than pink. Oh the things we do for our significant others.

I'll let you guys know how I get on with it as I'm using it longer and if I notice any other effects on my skin as my usage progresses. For now I can say I'm really quite pleased with the effects of this thing. Even though at first, I kind of thought it was a sex toy.

STYLE DIARY: RELAXED

June 03, 2016

Trousers: Monki | Sweater: Zara | Blazer: Zara | Loafers: H&M | Bag: Zara | Sunglasses: Ray Ban

Honestly I didn't realise I had shot another outfit on the docks until I was editing these photos, but hey couldn't pass up showing you another outfit. Last weekend when the mister and I were out exploring Zwolle I really liked my outfit so I asked him to shoot a couple pictures. On a busy street, with tons of people around. Yes, I felt very awkward but I powered through it.

These trousers are one of my favourite pieces inside my wardrobe, but I hardly wear them. They're a little tricky to style, I feel like they need well cut items to balance out the slouchiness. This white sweater from Zara had a horrible looking gold chain in front that I promptly cut off the second I got home, and now it's one of my go to sweaters. I like this type of neckline on me. I think I've worn this blazer thousands of times, so many times that it's starting to show signs on decay so maybe I should get a new one? Or invest more and get one that is higher quality, the cost per wear would definitely be low because I wear black blazers so often.

I've been getting into wearing loafers the last few weeks, even bought a spiffy new pair that I'll be showing on here shortly. They instantly class up an outfit while still being incredibly comfortable. These ones from H&M were bought a few seasons ago when I thought it would be a good idea to wear them to work, but I loved them so much that I didn't want to damage them when I was walking around picking up after movie theatre guests, so they went back into my closet and are now finally coming out to see the light of day.

THE PERFECT WORKSPACE: DESIGN INSPIRATION

June 01, 2016

Like I mentioned before, the mister and I want to move in together sooner rather than later. Though it will probably still be a lot of months before we make any definitive decisions, I can't help looking at interior design ideas to start brainstorming the decor of our little love nest. As we both spend a lot of time on computers (for both work and our hobbies) I really want a stylish yet practical workplace. I dream of those Pinterest worthy desks and hope that someday soon I'll be putting together these blog posts from one just like it.

I love clean and uncluttered desk, with plenty of decoration around it. I think we'll stick to a black, white and grey palette with small hints of colour. I have a thing with pale wooden floors as well, so I hope we'll land somewhere the floors don't require a lot of work.

If you want to see more of my interior design inspiration you can follow me on Pinterest right here. I pin new images in multiple categories once every day!

What is your favourite kind of workspace? Light and clean or do you like a good collection of clutter?
